 Gameplay of Island Investigation
Free The Band was a promotion in cooperation with rock band The All-American Rejects to promote the Inika. It was about the band having been kidnapped by the evil Piraka and the Inika setting off to find them. A promotional website (FreeTheBand.com, no longer in existence) was created, featuring contests, downloads and two games: Voya Nui Adventure and Island Investigation.
In Voya Nui Adventure, a very action-packed online game with music by The All-American Rejects in the background, one played as the six Toa Inika, each with different strenghts and weaknesses, collecting tablets which allowed one to download songs by several bands and defeating the Piraka and Nektann on their way. Island Investigation was a stealth game in which one played as Piruk through five levels, collection clues to find the band, solving riddles and being careful to not be found by the Piraka. There was one level per Piraka with the exception of Zaktan and Vezok, who both appeared in the same level. This game was unfortunately very glitchy but featured nostalgic MNOG-style graphics and good ambiental music. FreeTheBand.com was taken down in 2007 and thus also the games, although an archived version of the site and the games are available on The Barbarian Group's website. Now you can also download both games, although the MP3 files one could win in the Voya Nui Adventure game are not included.
